Partying with Kafka

Rereading Kafka’s “The Trial’. More discomfiting than the last time. Much more. I tried to take the edge off by imagining it reinvented as “The Surprise Party”. It didn’t work but it almost ruined parties for me. (I’m already nervous in large groups so I’m sure Franz would nod at my thought experiment).

In my imagination, everyone is demanding that K. attend a festivity in his honor. A long, endless party. The judge, jury, police, lawyers, etc. are replaced by hosts, caterers and bartenders. K.’s family hears about the party and wants to know why they weren’t told. Women involved with the party keep making out with K. People hear all kinds of outrageous things about the party and about K.’s behavior at the party, but he doesn’t know about any of it.

Not sure if I even need to change the ending.
